The Binocular Advisor

Birdwatching Dot Com is about wild birds and the sport of birding. It's for everyone who's interested in bird watching and enjoying nature.

Hummingbirds are showing up!
HummingbirdOur first hummer has arrived. We've hung up the newest thing to attract hummingbirds. It's the Hummer Helper nesting material. Hang it close to your window, and watch the female hummers take it. It encourages them to nest in your yard!

Newsletter January 08We enjoy sharing the lore of birding in a free e-newsletter about birds and birding. For a sample, click the miniature at right to see the March, 2008, issue.

Please feel free to subscribe. Or see some back issues.

We hope you'll find some good ideas here to help you have fun watching birds. Birdwatching is your lifetime ticket to the theater of nature.

In our open garage, a robin is nesting on top of a hoe. She sits tight when we walk past or go into the garage, but she keeps her eye on us.

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Some birds stop singing when their nests are underway, but the robin sings all summer long. We hear the male start at dawn, in the tree over the garage where his mate is sitting on eggs.

It's a lot of fun to learn birds' songs so that you can know which birds are around even before you actually see one.

Birdwatching is the very best kind of fun: easy, inexpensive, healthful and satisfying. Like Henry David Thoreau, we consider any day wasted that we don't go for a walk and enjoy nature.

Good birding!
