Kowa TSN-99A Angled Scope
Review
New scope from Kowa — the TSN-99A
Kowa's new high-end spotting scope embodies the fluorite crystal objective lens and the fine engineeering that put Kowa Prominar scopes in the top tier of birding optics.
But this one opens new territory for Kowa, because this is one is big. With its 99mm objective lens and a magnication range of 30x to 70, it provides a premier viewing experience and is eminently ideal for digiscoping.
The image
We rate this scope equal to the 95mm Swarovski ATX/STX scopes in brightness and resolution.
Size and weight
Scope body and eyepiece together weigh about 80 ounces.
The 30-70x zoom eyepiece TE-11WZ is designed to work with the scope. The scope comes in two styles:
- Angled (TSN-99A
- Straight (TSN-99S)
The objective lens is made from natural fluorite crystal. This crystal has properties that Kowa says cannot be reproduced in glass. Finished and polished, the low-dispersion fluorite lens can transmit light with minimal chromatic aberration. As a result, color blur is eliminated, providing a stunningly sharp, high-contrast image.
