Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32mm Review

New 32mm Zeiss Conquest Binoculars

by Michael and Diane Porter

Ideal Travel Binoculars

ConquestHigh-quality 32mm-sized binoculars in the $1000 price range seem hard to find. The Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 binocular fulfills this need.

The 8x32 Conquest is an ideal travel size. When you're traveling in a foreign country, you want your binoculars quickly available but not necessarily always on display. At just 4.9 inches long, a 32mm Conquest can be slipped into a cargo pocket or concealed beneath a jacket. And the 22.2-ounce weight is not burdensome to carry. Very nice.

The Zeiss Conquest HD is manufactured in Germany, giving birders the opportunity to enjoy European-made, Zeiss binoculars at an affordable price.

Excellent optical quality

The 8x32 Conquest HD has excellent optical quality, as you would expect in a $1000 binocular, and as we count on from Zeiss. It is bright, sharp, and quite free from chromatic aberration. We found no binoculars in its price range with better optics.

Wide field of view

One of the things that makes this 8x32 binocular stand out is its wide field of view. It has a remarkable 420-feet field of view at 1000 yards. This broad field of view creates an immersive experience. You feel as if if you are right there in the scene.

Good close up focus

Conquest HD 32mmWith a minimum focus distance of 4.9 feet, you are ready if you get lucky and a bird happens to come up close. You won't have to back up to focus!

Or if you're watching humminbirds at feeders, the Zeiss Conquest's almost-arm-length close focus lets you experience astounding plumage details.

Smooth focus knob

The Zeiss Conquest has one of the smoothest focus knob we have found on any binocular. It turns with the same degree of resistance at all parts of the action. There is no slack. You can make tiny, fine adjustments in focusing. A real pleasure.

Eye relief

Zeiss Conquest's 16 mm. of eye relief makes the binocular easy to use by glasses wearers.

There is an issue for people who do not wear glasses. This is an unusual problem. Zeiss engineered their eyecups a little too short for some non glasses wearers. As a result, with the supplied eyecups, some users need to hold the binoculars slightly away from their eyes.

The fix

To remedy the problem, Zeiss provides alternative, longer eyecups, which are available on request from Zeiss. It is easy to unscrew the original eyecups and replace them with the longer ones.
