Call of the Junco

Dark-eyed Junco

About to Slip Away

Does the Dark-eyed Junco seem pensive? Maybe I'm reading in my own feelings.

I wonder if it recognizes its own colors in the dissolving stump.

I wonder if the great coniferous forests of the north call it home to nest there once again, and how the bird hears that call. It will have to fly hundreds of miles to get there.

Does it feel the earth turning and slipping away beneath it?

Each wild bird seems exquisitely poignant.
