The
Large Gulls
of North America
Narrated
by Jon L. Dunn
Here is
a tool to help you become an expert on the large gulls of North America.
Gulls are
challenging birds to identify. There are lots of species, with subtle
differences between them. Furthermore, each gull goes through several
transformations in appearance as it matures.
If you
consider that summer plumage is different from winter plumage, and that
first-year, second-year, third-year, and sometimes fourth-year plumages
are all different, you end up with 6 to 8 different patterns for each
gull (plus one more, the juvenile plumage it wears only in its first season
after hatching).
No wonder
many people are overwhelmed by gulls.
But expert
birders take particular delight in studying them, and you can also, when
you use this DVD to get them all straight. In this DVD, three of the
world's top gull watchers share their knowledge and experience: Jon L.
Dunn, Larry Rosche, and John Vanderpoel.
A close look at
gulls
Outstanding
bird footage distinguishes this DVD, with sharp, detailed closeups of
the gulls. You see the birds in flight and perched. Watch them in slow
motion. Study side-by-side comparisons of similar species.
Here you
get a chance to compare the fine points of wing pattern, tail pattern,
head shape, and so on. There is new information in this DVD that is
not found in any of the field guides.
