The Manfrotto 055XB tripod has been our best-selling tripod for years. Made of aluminum, it is reliable, relatively lightweight, and smooth operating.
The mechanisms for adjusting the length are quick-action leg locks. We found the scooped shape of the leg locks just right to fit our thumbs and let us tighten a lock with one motion.
You can set the legs to one of three angles. Makes it easy to get down low for photograping nature at ground level, or at normal eye level or anything inbetween.
Any standard head will fit this scope. We recommend the Manfrotto 128RC head. Manfrotto used to offer this tripod and the 128RC head together as a kit. In 2013 Manfrotto discontinued the kits, but at Birdwatching Dot Com we offer the two together as a kit.
