Adding
Arizona Woodpecker
to Bird
Brain 5.0
If you
wish to add Arizona Woodpecker to the Reference database, here's
what to do.
From the
Reference menu, choose Edit Reference Birds. A window will open where
you can add the new species.
Click the
New button at center top of the window. You'll see the window with nothing
entered.
Enter the
following data:
Tax Order:
3900.5
Letter Code: ARWO
First Name: Arizona
Last Name: Woodpecker
Genus: Picoides
Species: arizonae
State/Province Range: AZ
Reference Notes: Split from Strickland's Woodpecker, of Mexico.
Scroll
down below the Caution! sign and check the ABA Bird box.
Click the
Enter button.
AFTERYOU
MAKE THE ABOVE CHANGES:
If you
have entered sightings for Strickland's Woodpecker which now properly
belong to Arizona Woodpecker, you will probably want to visit those records
and change the Letter Code from STWO to ARWO. When you Tab out of the
Letter Code field, the name of the species will change to Arizona Woodpecker.
Then press the Enter button.
If you
have recorded sightings which you believe are truly Strickland's Woodpecker
(in Mexico), just leave them alone. They are already correct.
The easiest
way to then update your lifelists is to then rebuild your life lists to
update your data.
From the
Records menu, choose Rebuild Life Lists... Click Rebuild all 6 Lists.
This may take a while if you have many records.
NOW DEMOTE
STRICKLAND'S FROM ABA STATUS:
In the
Edit Reference Birds Window, click Tax Order. Press Command-G. In the
long skinny field that opens at the top of the window, type 3900. Press
Tab.
The Strickland's
Woodpecker comes up.
Scroll
down below the Caution! sign and UNcheck the ABA Bird box. Click
the Enter button.
