A new binocular especially for young birders
For years, we have heard parents and grandparents ask for a binocular for the new, young birder in the family. A real binocular, with good optics, smaller size, and not too expensive.
We are happy to say that in 2023, Vortex has done it. The new Bantam 6.5x32 fills this need.
Here's what we think of this new binocular
6.5x Magnification for steadiness
The 6.5x magnification hits a sweet spot. It's powerful enough to give an up-close look at a bird. Enjoy watching the bird's behavior, and see the details necessary for identification. And at the same time enjoy the steadier view that 6.5x allows.
The 6.5x magnification is easy to use, ideal for a young person who is learning the skills of using binoculars.
Older birders might like it too.
Good optical quality
Anti-reflective coatings provide a bright image. For image clarity and faithful colors, the Bantam incorporates HD glass, which is used in all high-end binoculars. In an inexpensive binocular such as the Bantam, it is an unexpected plus.
Small and lightweight
The Bantam looks and operates like a full-size binocular, such as the best-selliing Vortex Diamonback 8x42. However, the Bantam is only 4.9 inches long. In the photo, compare the size of the Bantam (on the left) to the 8x42 Diamondback (on the right).
Weighing less than one pound, the Bantam is easy to carrry.
We suspect that some adults might want one of these themselves, especially for traveling.
