Close Focus

Birders love close focus. We often study birds up close, and when birds aren't available many of us watch butterflies. The closer a binocular focuses, the better we like it.

So the distance that the manufacturer quotes is at best a guideline. To determine true close focus, you have to try the binoculars with your own eyes.

Examples of close focusing binoculars are:

Alpen Apex
Audubon Equinox
Audubon Equinox HP
Brunton Epoch

Celestron Noble
Eagle Optics Ranger SRT
Pentax DCF SP
Pentax Papilio (3 feet!)
Vortex Viper
Zeiss T* FL

All of these focus closer than 7 feet.
