The Equinox
Waterproof Roof-prism
from Audubon

by Michael and Diane Porter
Michael Porter Diane Porter

We reviewed this binocular in the summer of 2004 as part of a Binocular Roundup for the November, 2004, issue of Birdwatcher's Digest.

Audubon Equinox binocularThe National Audubon Society has come out with its own line of binoculars. The focus seems to be on providing a decent binocular at a very decent price.

The top-of-the-line Equinox is a nice roof-prism binocular. It's the least expensive waterproof, fogproof, nitrogen-purged binocular we saw in the entire survey.

The Equinox features twist-and-lock eyecups. It has good eye relief of 16mm in the 8x42 and an excellent 19.5mm in the 10x42. Focusing as close as 5 feet, the Equinox would serve well for butterfly watching. It's a good starter binocular. It's available in 8x42 and 10x42.

The Equinox comes in 8x42 and 10x42.
