Kowa TSN-99A Angled Scope
Review

New scope from Kowa — the TSN-99A

Kowa's new high-end spotting scope embodies the bluorite crystal objective lens and the fine engineeering that put Kowa Prominar scopes in the top tier of birding optics.

Kowa TSN-ppA Scope

But this one opens new territory for Kowa, because this is one is big. With its 90mm objective lens and a magnication range of 30x to 70, it provides a premier viewing experience and is eminently ideal for digiscoping.

We rate this scope equal to the 95mm Swarovski ATX/STX scopes in brightness and resolution.

Size and weight

Scope body and eyepiece together weigh about 80 ounces.

The 30-70x zoom eyepiece TE-11WZ is designed to work with the scope. The scope comes in two styles:

  • Angled (TSN-99A
  • Straight (TSN-99S)

The objective lens is made from natural fluorite crystal. This crystal has properties that Kowa says cannot be reproduced in glass. Finished and polished, the low-dispersion fluorite lens can transmit light with minimal chromatic aberration. As a result, color blur is eliminated, providing a stunningly sharp, high-contrast image.
