Leica Ultravid HD 8x32
Overall Score: 4.76 (0ut of possible 5.0)
What an elegant binocular! At a mere 18.9 ounces, it's slim, compact and the lightest weight of the high-end 8x32s in our survey. It has superb (4.9) optical quality, with no discernible chromatic aberration. "I'm right in the scene," one judge marveled.
The diopter adjustment mechanism has a clear, easy-to-read dial on the near end of the focus knob that lets you always see what the diopter setting is.
Our judges ranked the Leica at 4.5 in fit & feel, slightly below other high-end binoculars whose armoring was deemed grippier and therefore more hand friendly. The field of view of 404 feet slightly depressed the Leica's Overall Score. Despite this, the Ultravid still came in third.
Pro: Superlative optical quality; elegant design; beautiful diopter adjustment.
Con: Eye relief of 13.3 mm may be insufficient for glasses wearers to see the full field of view. Expensive.
