This Morning Outside

Fairfield, Iowa

Every day for the last week, I've watched a Bald Eagle fly over my house on the outskirts of Fairfield. This once-rare bird is resettling Iowa, to our joy.

Bald Eagles hunt, but if they find a winter-killed animal, they'll feed on that rather than go to the effort of capturing live prey. The earth on its talons reveals that this eagle has been stomping around on the ground, perhaps working over some carcass it's discovered.
