This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

It was such a foggy, colorless morning, I muttered, "Hopeless!" and left my camera in the cabinet. But I found myself running back to the house for it when beside my front door 100 cedar waxwings plushed into the cherry tree.

This waxwing picked a cherry, tossed it up with a spin and caught it blossom-end-away before swallowing it. Look at the structure of that tongue!
