Ah, the purple finches are back! Raspberry on the head and under the chin. Even an echo of raspberry in the light-colored edges of the wing feathers. But best of all is that paler, lighter-berry stripe over the eye. "Purple" doesn't do this bird justice, but it's almost a metaphor for the royal richness of his hue.
