This Morning Outside

Baby was almost as big as dad, and there were four others down in that box, getting more crowded every day and itching for a turn at the window and the next pizza delivery.

Later in the day, the five lurched out into the world. But that doesn't end the parents' job. Young bluebirds can't catch all their own food for several weeks after they fledge. Mom and Pop keep bringing them meals up in the trees until the youngsters can fend for themselves.

Still, the whole family, including young from two or three broods in one summer, may stick together through the winter.
