This Morning Outside

Most of the spring migrants have passed through by now, and so my attention is turning to birds who spend the summer and nest in Iowa. Like the red-eyed vireo. Often I can't see the redness of its eye, but when the sun finds it at just the right angle between the bird's eye and my own, then I really see it.

I don't always notice the spiffy gray cap, either, with the darker gray trim at the edges, but I saw it today.

This fellow sings all day long and all summer long.

Where are you? Here I am.

You may not see him, lost up there in the leaves, but if you're in Iowa, you'll hear him.
