This Morning Outside

To me, great crested flycatchers going about their lives in the treetops just make the whole forest feel alive. When I hear their energetic, throbbing WHEEP cries, the hairs stand up on my arms and the back of my neck.

(You have to go listen to all their sounds, the  Cornell Lab of Ornithology's website.)

I love the yellowy belly, and the rusty tail with the sun shining through its feathers. This is a big, dramatic flycatcher. These are birds that require you to notice them, if you're even half awake in the woods.
