Dark-eyed juncos are as easy as snowflakes in the cold. This one is showing, on her left side, the white outer tail feathers that are the badge of the junco.

Watch juncos on the ground, and you'll see those white flags suddenly flash open and reveal. When a junco flies away, its white tail edges flare, alerting the rest of the flock. Come this way! Come now!
