This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

Jefferson County Park
Fairfield, Iowa

Twenty people turned out on a cold, sunny Iowa morning to walk trails in Jefferson County Park. Probably the bird that caused the most excitement was a male yellow-bellied sapsucker waaaay up high in the trees. You can just make out the hint of yellow on his belly.

A pair of eastern bluebirds also riveted the group's attention, especially when the male perched with his back to the group, with the sun shining on him, and turned his face to the side so that everyone could appreciate him.
