This Morning Outside

Hummingbirds are mobbing my porch. My feeders are buzzing with rubythroats from dawn till dark.

They're more abunant now than any other time of year. The hatchlings of the year have not yet been thinned out by the ordeal of flying nonstop across the Gulf of Mexico to Central America and then returning the same way in spring.

Many of these hummers will not make it back. I wish them well, though, every one of them. And if I can offer a little extra food to fuel their journey, so much the better.
