Every year I search hopefully in the wild field for dickcissels. They ought to be here, but most summers I don't find any. Something has happened, though. Yesterday, suddenly, a dozen males were singing in the field.

Here is a female, in a rare moment of posing. Perhaps she has not begun her nest.
