This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

March 11, 2012
Pond by WalMart
Mt. Pleasant, Iowa

Well snouted is the snipe. Its bill has the slick ability to wiggle just its tip when deep in the mud, to feel and fetch out small wiggly things to eat.

This snipe was working the edges of a fenced-in pond beside a huge WalMart center in Mt Pleasant, Iowa. Mostly it stayed out of sight behind the grasses, but now and then it peeped out, perhaps to see who was watching it.
