This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

It has been hot, around 100 degrees every day, and no rain in the whole last month, until yesterday. I hadn't found any Henslow's Sparrows for a couple of weeks.

Yesterday we had a sizzle of rain, just enough to cool the cheeks of the languishing plants, no more. And this morning the wild field has singing Henslow's Sparrows again! As if they have awakened to new life.
