This Morning Outsideby Diane PorterJuly 3, 2011 In some cultures, mantis is sacred. In the world of the eastern phoebe, mantis is food for phoebe babies. This morning both parent phoebes made countless trips into the wild field, returning each time with an insect for the young in the nest. Sometimes it was a caterpillar, sometimes a dragonfly. And often a mantis. ![]() Photo copyright 2011 Michael and Diane Porter
