This Morning Outside

White-crowned Sparrow is king of my garden's little mountain. This everywhere species lives at one season or another in every state and province of North America, and well into Mexico.

It loves a birdbath. It comes to feeders on the ground. It's silent here in Iowa now, but in spring it sings a high, thin song that sets the human heart to longing for it knows not what.
