This Morning Outside

Several birds hit the window at once, as birds sprang off in all directions from the feeders. A shadow passed overhead, and a sharp-shinned hawk sailed down and landed in the oak tree.

Her red eye searched for an unwary bird, but she was the only bird in sight. No meal for the sharpie this time. But sometime today, maybe in the quiet of the afternoon, a small bird will dedicate the rest of its life to nourishing the hawk.
