This Morning Outsideby Diane PorterApril 16, 2010 The Olive-throated Parakeet feeds on the red fruit of the ackee. The ackee fruit is the national fruit of Jamaica. I found this parakeet easily at Hotel Mocking Bird Hill, in Port Antonio, Jamaica. Jamaica has wonderful birds, including 28 endemic species, ones that are found nowhere else in the world. Amazingly, to me, most of the Jamaican endemics are fairly common or even very common and easy to see. The Olive-throated Parakeet is one of the endemics.
