This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

December 12, 2009
At the Hamitons' Place
Near Fairfield, Iowa

When Jennifer Hamilton called to say the Eurasian tree sparrows were at her feeder, Michael and I rushed over to see them. For decades they have been found around St. Louis, and recently they've spread into southeastern Iowa and western Illinois. So to see three of these attractive, red-crowned birds, less than a mile as the crow flies from my house in Fairfield, Iowa, was a treat. Thanks, Jennifer!
