Scallops Year-around Birdbath
with Pedestal

Water your birds!

Kozy Spa UnheatedAll the birds love a birdbath. And this is our favorite one. It's the Scallops Year-around Birdbath with Pedestal.

It looks like carved natural stone. With its elegant fluted column, it does look like something out of an ancient Greek temple. However, it's really an advanced polymer material that is both lightweight and strong.

It's just the correct, shallow depth to make the birds feel safe. And the inside is textured, not slippery or slick. Birds like a sure footing just as much as we do in the shower!

In the garden it's an artistic asset. It blends well with flowers and shrubs and makes the garden seem welcoming to nature.

The birds love this birdbath.

Birds who use the Scallops bath

We watch it bring comfort to blue jays, cardinals, and goldfinches. And titmice, mourning doves, and blackbirds. It's often visited by grosbeaks, robins, and chickadees. Also wrens, catbirds, and bluebirds. Occasionally it's been blessed by indigo buntings and hummingbirds.

Care of the Scallops bath

ScallopsThe Scallops bath is much easier to clean than most baths, because there's nothing in the way. Just squirt or swipe out bowl and refill.

In summer, algae will start to build up in any birdbath if its just left on its own. However, it's easy to keep algae from going hog wild.

I keep a vegetable brush outside on a nail, and I give the bowl a swish with it every day when I change the water. The basin looks so inviting after I refresh it, and I feel good when I see the birds drinking the water I've just replenished.

Scallops BathYear-around water

As lovely as it is in summer, the Scallops bath continues to delight in winter. A de-icer is built right into the bowl, where it works invisibly to maintain open water even in sub freezing weather.

You run your cord up through the hollow pedestal, out of sight. In winter, plug it into the underside of the bowll, where the 120 watt thermostatically controlled heater is built in. The deicer is hidden inside the bowl, so there is nothing to spoil the clean lines.

The pedestal

Kozy Bird PedestalI also like the fact that this bath is on a pedestal, so I have to bend over only slightly to clean it. (Also makes it safer from house cats.)

The pedestal itself is 23" tall, engineered of the same durable polymer construction as the bowl. The pedestal is hollow, which makes it really lightweight and easy to move around.

After you get it set up, you can fill the pedestal part way with sand or pebbles, for stability. We have terrific, howling winds where we live, out in the country in Iowa. I mean, toolsheds blow over if they aren't secured to the ground. But our Scallops bath has remained upright through all of them.

But best of all, the Scallops Bath with Pedestal looks graceful and elegant. I've never seen a birdbath that I liked better.

We love it, and the wild birds love it.
