This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

June 28, 2010
In the garden at Birdwatching Dot Com
Fairfield, Iowa

I've been feeding mealworms to the eastern bluebirds. Or rather I've been offering them mealworms. They eat a few, but most they take into the woods to their young family, all five of which left the birdhouse about a week ago.

This is Larry, the patriarch, the father of ten young bluebirds so far this summer, and as many last year. Larry and I are getting to be good friends.
