This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

June 25, 2010
In a grassy field near Birdwatching Dot Com
Fairfield, Iowa

There wasn't much bird activity going on, but the dragonflies were putting on all kinds of show today. I'm just starting to watch dragonflies, and it reminds me of when I first started watching birds. The days when I had a good chance of seeing a life bird whenever I went outside with my binoculars. Now I'm having that kind of fun again, with dragonflies.

This morning I saw my first Halloween Pennant dragonfly. It's a gorgeous creature, with a wonderful golden-orange color. And check out the red eyes!
