This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

June 20, 2010
In the woods near Birdwatching Dot Com
Fairfield, Iowa

This male cardinal's ragged tail is typical for summertime. He's had these same tail feathers for almost a year now, and they're wearing out. Later in the summer, feather by feather, he'll start getting a fresh new tail.
