This Morning Outside

by Diane Porter

June 2, 2010
At the edge of a gravel road leading to Birdwatching Dot Com
Fairfield, Iowa

Three of the killdeer babies have have hatched so far. Here they are, ranging from one to four hours old. As soon as the fourth egg hatches and the baby dries off, the parents will lead all the little killdeer around and teach them what to eat. These babies never get waited on! Once they are on their feet, there will be no sign that a killdeer nest was ever there.
